The automotive industry is developing more and more towards a complex network of a few OEMs and several global suppliers. To support their interdisciplinary collaboration, the key factor is to support communication across companies, organizational structures, time zones, languages, and cultural differences. Synchronous and efficient teamwork is essential to improve this remote and interdisciplinary collaboration as the distance inhibits constant physical presence of team members.

To design a collaborative environment supporting mechatronic systems-engineering, a detailed analysis of suitable processes is needed beforehand. Starting with the goal to support these processes, this leads to an appropriate layout of the environment. Thus, the system focuses not only on the interconnection of the team members, but also on the integration of suitable applications to support the processes and the mechatronic systems themselves.
